Erica Reyes (she/her) is an Art Therapist who earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Therapy from Millikin University in 2022 and her Master’s degree in Counseling in Art Therapy from Adler University in 2024. Erica believes in the power of healing through art, using it as a personal tool for growth. Art therapy offers a safe, non-verbal outlet for individuals to express emotions and process complex feelings, fostering healing and personal development.
In terms of previous experience, Erica interned at several locations during her undergraduate studies in Decatur, IL. These included a day center for adults with intellectual disabilities, where she focused on developing fine motor skills through art; a sexual assault center, where she served as an advocate and hotline worker; and an adolescent psychiatric unit, where she facilitated art therapy groups. During graduate school, Erica interned at an advocacy center that provided resources to immigrant and refugee high school girls. She also worked at a nonprofit community mental health center, providing both talk and art therapy to clients in the facility as well as in middle and high schools. Her clients ranged from children to elderly individuals, and she assisted with various issues, including trauma, emotional regulation, and support through life transitions.
As an Art Therapist, Erica’s goal is to create a safe space where clients can explore and process their emotions through various therapeutic modalities. She uses empathy and patience to build a space where clients feel understood, validated, and encouraged through creativity. Erica’s approach combines Client-Centered Therapy, art-making, Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She has experience working with clients facing life transitions, anxiety disorders, depression, trauma/PTSD, and schizophrenia.
