Niko Aguilar, M.S.

Niko Aguilar (She/They) is an Art Therapist who received her Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Mount Mary University in 2023. Niko strongly believes that art therapy can be a powerful tool in exploring your thoughts, feelings, and struggles in a way that does not rely solely on words. Using art in therapy can help those who need a guiding hand in expressing themselves when words are not enough.

As for previous experience, Niko interned as an art therapist in Milwaukee, WI with Seasons Hospice, where they provided comfort for those transitioning to the end of life, as well as a support for those surviving their family members. Niko also interned at Lloyd Barbee Montessori, a K-12 Montessori school in Milwaukee, WI. In the school setting, Niko co-facilitated art therapy groups with children and early adolescents that required support regarding emotional and behavioral needs, while also having individual sessions with those requiring extra therapeutic support. During her time at Lloyd Barbee, Niko aided clients in exploring their sense of self, while encouraging efforts to work and feel connected with their peers and community.

Niko’s goal as an Art Therapist is to build an open, honest, and safe therapeutic relationship with her clients. She firmly believes in providing a safe and non-judgmental space for their clients, while also helping them realize that therapy is a brave space that can be used to identify and develop their own strengths and needs. To do this, Niko utilizes art-making, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Narrative Therapy under a strengths based and Client Centered approach. Niko has experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Trauma, stressful life transitions, Anxiety Disorders, and Depression.
