After spending the past eight years in Southern California, Kevin has returned to the Great Lakes to reclaim his Midwest roots. He holds a graduate degree in counseling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy from California State University-Fullerton and a second graduate degree in music therapy from Illinois State University. He has worked as a mental health provider for the past eight years, establishing and developing clinical music therapy programs
within pediatric inpatient mental health, educational communities, and across two cancer care sites.
Kevin has extensive experience working with individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, teens/adolescents, young adults, and those in early adulthood. Apart from general mental health concerns, Kevin specializes in the following themes: anxiety, depression, grief, identity, life adjustments/transitions, relational trauma, relationship issues, suicidality, stress, and coping with chronic illness. Kevin is a National Certified Counselor, trained in Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and seeks ways of integrating creativity and cultural responsiveness
into his practice. He considers himself a life-long learner, thrives on collaboration with his clients, and looks at ways to make the world safer inside and outside of the therapy space.
Working from a relational-cultural lens, Kevin supports clients in exploring how their past and present relationships fit within the larger cultural picture (ex., family, societal, political, religious/spiritual, intersectional). He helps clients understand how these influences can shape their sense of authenticity, strengthen or strain their connections with others, and sometimes leave them feeling confused, disconnected, or overwhelmed. Kevin views the therapeutic
relationship as a central part of the healing process and an important tool for growth.
Within the counseling space, Kevin uses aspects of Gestalt, Narrative, Psychodynamic, Somatic, and Trauma-Informed Care. Counseling can be more than just talk therapy. As a board-certified music therapist, Kevin finds music therapy and creative-based experiences can be helpful modalities when navigating issues that are challenging to process or when seeking additional coping strategies.
Outside of the therapy space, Kevin enjoys boardgames, improv comedy, cooking/baking, being amongst nature, and caring from his three reptiles.
