Michael Tatar, LPC

Michael Tatar is a Licensed Professional Counselor at ArtWell Therapy Center who specializes in working with neurodivergent individuals, specifically those navigating ADHD and executive functioning challenges. In addition to his work with neurodiversity, Michael has extensive experience treating substance use disorders and behavioral addictions. He also provides specialized support for clients, guiding them through the critical transition from inpatient hospitalization, Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) back into their daily lives.

Michael’s professional background is centered on helping clients manage the complexities of neurobiology and habit formation. He understands that ADHD and addiction often intersect, and he works to help clients develop tailored strategies to improve focus, organization, and emotional regulation. His experience in high-acuity settings like PHP and IOP programs allows him to provide a steady, knowledgeable hand for those stepping down to a lower level of care, ensuring they have the structural and emotional support necessary to maintain their progress and autonomy in a community setting.

Rooted in psychoanalytic theory, Michael’s approach explores how a client’s past experiences and unique history bring them to their current moment. He integrates this deep, insight-oriented work with evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Michael operates from a humanistic, person-centered lens, believing that the client must remain the primary architect of their own healing. He strives to create a non-judgmental space where the therapeutic relationship is built on mutual respect and shared curiosity.

Michael is passionate about the process of discovery that happens within the therapy room. While he recognizes that starting therapy can feel scary or intimidating, he views it as a collaborative journey where both therapist and client grow together. His ultimate goal is to empower his clients to better understand their own minds, build self-compassion, and achieve a sense of balance and self-efficacy in their lives.
